Vern Hoven, CPA, MT, is one of America’s premier tax presenters and speaks to over 100 groups a year on a variety of tax topics. He teaches at Western CPE Federal Tax Update seminars and conferences and produces self-study and webcasts courses as well. Vern consistently receives outstanding evaluations and has won numerous teaching awards, including the prestigious AICPA 2014 Sidney Kess Award for Excellence in Continuing Education.
Vern is the author of the best-selling Real Estate Investor’s Tax Guide and a favorite interviewee on radio, television, and in newspapers. His presentation skills have earned him the coveted Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation from the National Speakers Association, which has granted only 400 CSPs out of 3,600 NSA members as of 2006.
Vern practiced in the public, governmental, and corporate accounting fields before starting his own public accounting practice in 1973, a firm that grew to one of the largest in western Montana. In 1985, he started his present tax consulting practice. CPA Magazine recognized Vern as one of the top 50 IRS representation practitioners in 2008.
Alice Orzechowski, CPA, CMA, EA, was born and raised in Washington, DC. She holds BS degrees in Economics and Accounting from the University of Maryland, and an MS in Administration and Management from Hood College. She is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and Enrolled Agent. Alice has provided advice on tax-related matters in The Washington Post, The Frederick News Post, in various AARP publications, and on Wall Street Journal Radio, CNN, and Today’s Woman Television and is a national speaker on tax topics.
Alice earned the CPA accreditation in 1976, and over the course of her 40-year career has developed a wealth of tax-related knowledge. She is published on the topic of tax planning for college expenses, and is a recognized expert on intergenerational wealth transfer. She is also the author of numerous articles and textbooks for tax professionals including “101 Tips for Maximizing College Financial Aid” and “Success Strategies for Understanding and Avoiding AMT.”
Alice is the owner of her own CPA practice, Alice Orzechowski CPA, LLC. She is also well-versed in federal and local corporate tax laws, and advises hundreds of clients on corporate tax strategy. In addition, Alice specializes in taxes for individuals, small businesses, and estates and trusts.
Alice and her husband Scott live in the mountains on Caprikorn Farm, where they raise award-winning Saanen dairy goats and make cheese that is distributed to various high-end food stores such as Whole Foods. They currently have over 100 goats, each of which they have named!
Founder of D.T. Moore and Company, LLC Daniel is a Salem area CPA. Daniel received his Bachelor of Business Administration Accounting Degree, Cum Laude, from Kent State University and his Master of Public Administration from Gannon University, Erie, PA.
Daniel has served on many boards including the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Counsel (IRSAC), the Wage and Investment subgroup of IRSAC. He was appointed to serve as a member the AICPA Individual Income Tax Technical Resource Panel. He has also served on the IRS executive steering committee for the 1040 modernized efile platform implementation.
Daniel conducts continuing education seminars for other accountants on topics ranging from advising clients on social security benefits, planning for college costs, working with tax exempt organizations, as well as individual and business tax preparations. He has taught income taxation as an adjunct professor at Youngstown State University. He has also spoken on behalf of the Ohio Society of CPAS on the topic of the Ohio Budget Task Force. In addition, he has served as a panelist on the Internal Revenue Service webcast series, “Tax Talk Today.”
Daniel’s ever growing practice concentrates on accounting, tax planning and preparation, payroll services, and compliance for individuals and small businesses. He enjoys working with start-up companies from concept through development to growth.
David F. Jarmusz, CPA, JD, LLM, is a partner at Jarmusz & Associates Tax, LLC. He is also a veteran of the international tax departments of the ‘Big 4’ accounting firms of Coopers & Lybrand (Washington, D.C. and London, UK) and Ernst & Young LLP (Chicago). As a lifelong international tax practitioner, he has assisted hundreds of clients around the world.
He earned a BS in accounting from the Canisius College of Buffalo, NY, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Law School, and Master of Laws in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center.
David resides in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka, Il. In his free time, he sails with his family on Lake Michigan and watches the Buffalo Sabres in their lengthy pursuit of the Stanley Cup. He is also active with his sons through the Boy Scouts of America where he holds a leadership position.
